Il cosidetto "doom-jazz" è un genere piccolo ma ricco di ottime band. Ovviamente non parliamo nè di puro doom, nè di puro jazz ma uno strano ibrido che da vita a questo pseudo genere. Solitamente è una musica oscura, lenta e suonata con potenza che usa i fiati come linea melodica e non disdegna influenze folk esotiche.

Alcuni nomi? Bohren And Der Club Of Gore, Kilimanjaro DarkJazz Ensemble, Dale Cooper Quartet, Five The Hierophant e persino formazioni nostrane come Macelleria Mobile di Mezzanotte e Mope. Spesso vengono inseriti anche i Messa, che sono stati compagni di tour europeo con i Wyatt E. e che tra riff doom e hard rock sposano volentieri questo tipo di influenza.

Wyatt E. sono un trio belga ma che sembra provenire dalla mesopotamia (un po' come facevano gli americani Master Musicians Of Bukkake con il Nord Africa) totalmente impallato con le tematiche assiro-babilonesi. In "Al Beluti Daru" costruiscono un lungo trip lisergico formato da due brani da quasi 20 minuti ciascuno in cui i tre musicisti, aiutati da strumenti tradizionali, mescolano il drone e la dark ambient con elementi folk. Il "doom-jazz" è quindi una suggestione, un modo per incasellare una band che prova a sfuggire a qualsiasi clichè. E' un modo breve per dire che suonano lenti, dilatati e non troppo lontani da certi dischi di jazz spirituale.

Se siete amanti delle cose curiosi cercateli senza indugio.
